So We Are Fact No.22 in Egypt

It seems that our embassy in Washington has launched a website called "100 Facts about Egypt" , I do not need to explain what this website is about.
Now to my surprise it turned out as Egyptians bloggers we are fact No.22 in Egypt !! Yes No.22 from the 100 facts !! According to fact No.22 :
Egypt is home to 30% of the Arab world's bloggers !!

And the official newsletter goes on saying :

  • Egypt has an estimated 162,000 bloggers, most of whom are between the ages of 20 and 30.
  • Egypt’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology launched the Free Internet Initiative in 2002 offering free internet services to all users across the country.
  • Thanks in large part to government efforts to promote internet use, the number of Egyptians with access to the internet has more than quadrupled over the past several years, and an estimated 10 percent of the population used the internet in 2007.

As far as I used the last two points are not about blogging  but about internet access in Egypt !!
Wow now the government is bragging about us !! So I Do not understand ; does this mean that the government welcomes us or what ???
I understand that this website is made to beautify the ugly face of the regime in the States bragging about its achievements in politics, economy and civil rights. By making us fact No.22 the regime is trying to change its image abroad that it hates and fights bloggers who oppose it after all we represent 30% of bloggers in the Arab world !!
To be honest there are some facts which I do not know before like for instance : Fact No.8 I did not know before that we have an Egyptian field hospital in Bagram in Afghanistan !!

  1. The hospital has been there for a very long time to treat Afghans. My brother in law served there for a couple of years. I don't think it's a bad thing to do. We're not engaging in combat after all.

  5. They should add a footnote about the ratio of arrested bloggers to none-arrested bloggers, to put in all in perceptive.
